Concrete Pumping

Plan pumpability, set lines safely, prime correctly, and keep a steady placement rate. Coordinate WVDOH testing and traffic control.

Mix Pumpability

  • Verify pumpability with the producer (paste volume, gradation, fines). Trial on long/vertical runs.
  • For lightweight mixes, pre-wet aggregates per mix design to reduce slump loss.
  • Use admixtures (WR/VMA) instead of “job water” to fine-tune flow.

Line Setup & Priming

  • Choose appropriate diameter; minimize reducers and tight bends. Secure clamps, gaskets, pins.
  • Prime with approved slurries or devices—avoid water-only priming unless specified.
  • Anchor lines; protect walkways/traffic; plan blow-outs in safe, contained zones.

Operations & Safety

  • Maintain a steady rate; limit starts/stops to avoid slugging/air voids.
  • Establish an exclusion zone around hopper/boom/line; never open a pressurized line.
  • Coordinate discharge points with finishing; use hand signals or radios.
